Oscar De La Hoya has taken a scathing swipe at Eddie Hearn in a bizarre video posted online. De La Hoya, 48, appeared to forget Hearn’s name as he accused the promoter of “ruining Anthony Joshua’s career,” all while getting a face massage off girlfriend Holly Sonders.
Matchroom boss Hearn was ring-side at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium last Saturday as Joshua, 31, was outclassed by Oleksandr Usyk, with the Ukrainian taking a unanimous points verdict to claim the WBA, IBF, WBO, and IBO heavyweight belts.
However, in a clip posted on Twitter by Michael Benson, Online Boxing Editor for talkSPORT, De La Hoya said no one in America saw the fight.
“I’ll tell you one thing the, uh…” De La Hoya began, before asking Sonders who were the fighters. “Joshua versus Usyk, which nobody saw in the US, because…”

“What’s that promoter that doesn’t know how to.. that has no clue of what to do in the US? I think his name is Hearn or something,” De La Hoya continued.
“Oh, Thomas Hearn?” Sonders, a golfer, sports presenter and model, responds.
“Yeah, Thomas Hearn. Thomas Hearn,” shouts De La Hoya, before tearing into the 42-year-old directly.
“Stay in the UK. Promote your fights. You have no clue what you are doing in the US. DAZN is doing the right thing by sticking with Golden Boy.”

The boxing legend, whose comeback fight with Vitor Belfort was scuppered last month when he tested positive for Covid-19, then finished off by stating: “He does not know how to promote in America – Usyk crowned himself world champion and Eddie Hearn ruined Joshua’s career.”
There is much to question about De La Hoya’s outburst. For a start, given he heads Golden Boy Promotions himself, it is almost inconceivable that he would not be aware of the name of a rival as renowned as Hearn.
However, the American-Mexican, who this week was also involved in an online spat with UFC President Dana White, is thought to be angry over Hearn’s apparent capture of Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez.
Canelo, 31, has won multiple world championships in four weight classes and is widely considered one of the best pound-for-pound fighters of his generation.
